Rather an informal opening, but Perrin's not really one for formality. The character of Lady Perrin Hawtrey (she's not all that much of a lady, but let's not quibble over the details) is derived from some rather horrible W&W fanfic that I attempted in the early 90s. Lucky for you, gentle reader, it didn't see the light of day. I took the few good ideas from that character and created a new one - Perrin Hawtrey and her shape-changer companion/familiar named Malin.
Since there
is no new thing under the sun, Perrin and Malin are based on a number of
characters and mythologies that have come down to us through the course of
history. In particular, the Norse mythologies have inspired me, especially the
shape-changing abilities of Malin to become human or falcon at will. I've also
thrown in a tiny bit of myself into Perrin and Malin - it'd be tough not to. And
there they are to the left. And thanks very much to my friend Mike who did the
drawing for me!
Some of the other bits are just things I'm interested in - herbs for healing, appreciating nature (growing up on 40 acres by a river will do that to you), falconry, warriors, horses and leather. *grin* However, I try to make Perrin believable in the setting she is in. Hopefully I have succeeded in doing so.
Many thanks to everyone who encouraged me to write and submit my first chapter through the W&W list. I also appreciate the background information, beta-reads and suggestions that folks have made.
Perrin
is not a particularly nice character which is what I like about her. She and
Malin will experience a number of adventures in Aperans and I don't know exactly
what will happen along the way. Mainly because the story is on hiatus due to my
webmaster and real life duties. However, the first 12 chapters of their story
can be found in the fanfiction section of The Land of Aperans - The Haven for
Wizards and Warriors website.
Click on the story graphic and you'll be transported there. If you enjoy the story, please let me know. I do hope to continue it as I have time and ideas.
